Tea rooms have been steeped in feminism since the suffrage movement began. Respectable women couldn't set foot in a public establishment without a man on their arm. As women were shut out of the vote, year after year, tensions began to boil over. Women wanted somewhere to speak freely, to gather, and yes, to spill the tea.
